Why I want to Teach
My History
When I was in elementary school, I struggled to read at the same level as my peers. I was pulled out for Speech and had trouble decoding words because of my speech impediment. Through the fear of being made fun of as I got older and the rare opportunity to start over in a new school, I took control of my learning experience. With the help of some innovative teachers, I used my natural gifts and talents to compensate for my lack communication. Luckily I also became very interested in storytelling and art, through those my love of video games grew. I taught myself to read better so that I could comprehend the stories in my video games. With the combination of great teachers and the big bang of the computer age, I was able to shine through the rest of my education experience.
My background at East Tennessee State University is Digital Media and a Masters in the Arts of Teaching. I have created comic book characters, stories, short films, poems, and websites. I have combined my natural affinity for technology and my desire to always grow, as the primary foundation for the person I am today. I plan to create and develop educational tools to help struggling and at-risk students in my community. I want to explore the possibilities that technology can bring to classrooms and hope that one day, an individual will have me in mind when they are writing about why they want to teach.
Why I Would Be A Good Teacher
I always desire to learn or better myself. I constantly search to better my skills in creating new and better ways of doing things. I enjoy helping people better themselves and serving my peers. I have spent the last five years developing leadership skills as a Resident Director and technology skills as a Technology Assistant for Johnson City School District in Tennessee . I have practice educating others through both of these positions in either formal training or tutorial help on technology. I desire to teach and was raised by a family who valued education. I think reading and creating, open up worlds of knowledge. With the right knowledge, the foundation for higher order of thinking becomes more fluent. I am a strong believer in Howard Gardener's Multiple Intelligences and try to adapt my teaching instruction to a diverse group of students.
I hope that one day I am teaching students to think beyond a problem and developing classroom the tools that turns every student into excellent learners. Students that invest in themselves as learners, become hardworking citizens that desire to better our community and our country. I hope that I have the opportunity to inspire, just as I was inspired in my youth.
